Academy Awards 2010

Demi Moore
So time is a ticking, it's just a couple weeks left until the academy awards 2011, so let's take a brief look at our favourite red carpet looks of 2010.  First let's shift our gaze to the girls. They steal the show year after year, but what were our ladies loving in 2010? Nudes made a splash alongside deep reds and wine tones. Metallics dominated.

Night Cats

Hey kids. It's a saturday night here in Johannesburg, and i've just been to dinner on the Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton. I took in a few preliminary drinks at local hot spot Cafe Dela Salute, before heading over to Piatto to munch. The vibe was electric tonight (live acoustic guitarists sponsored by Peroni), which meant the ladies and gents were out in full force. I noticed a few odd pieces by the bar, and some even more strange seated at tables. Naturally I coudlnt whip out my Nikon D80 and snap shot of randoms in public, so I have searched for pieces that reflect a similar look to what i spotted tongiht. basically, the theme of this post is What Were You Thinking.

Hers were lumo green. I know. There's a fine line between fashion and costume. Fancy dress I tell you.

Let's just say, there was a tweed situation.

Tribals are hot and jumpsuits are cute, but put the two together and we've got an apocalypse.

Love a good label, but some cats just dunno when to stop. catch a wake up.

Androgyny gets a softer edge. Let's talk camel hues and chocolate tones. Men meet your match.

Winter She Blows

Girls of SA. Winter's coming. Now, one thing i've noticed having spent 2 winter seasons here, is that fashion of that season is bollocks. So, here's a sneak peak at what the world has been wearing while we've been doing the boho beach thing.

Block colour swing coat. New spin on a '60's classic.

This is my favourite. Note the tailoring.  Style and shape is a nod to Jackie O

The military parka keeps coming back. Note the contrast trimming.

Strong details on a feminine cut. Note the colouring.
Ladies, play with your outerwear. A solid purchase will translate season to season, year to year. Stick to classic colouring that will integrate well with the rest of your wardrobe.

Man Bags

Gents, don't fear the man bag. Everyone has a lot of shit to carry, so why not ditch the over stuffed pockets and widen your horizons. Found a couple treats for boys that's i'm loving. Take a look. Man bags.

There are a couple retro looks that are really making a splash internationally. I'm talking the nod to leather bound books and scotch on the rocks. Indie rockers eat your hearts out.

Shape Shifters

pgeproduct.aspx.jpgOk kids, this one's for the boys. I have this friend, who is a little retarded when it comes to having a clue about what he puts on his body. He likes to think he knows what he's doing, but even the harshest words about his oversized checkered shorts and unravelling sweaters, aren't enough to get through. So here's a couple hints for you xx types.
Know your shape. The worst mistake you can make is to under or over estimate your size.  Correctly fitting clothing is one of the major aspects of feeling comfortable in your clothes, and everyone knows that comfort is confidence. Fitted t shirt, tailored trousers and shirts. Take a real look at your legs and judge your jeans accordingly. Your own personal style reflects the type of clothing you wear, but your body shape can also dictate your personal style. Just be observant.
pgeproduct.aspx.jpgSecondly, use colour wisely. You are not a skittle, so go easy on the brights. Over exposure to lumos and luminescents makes your get up look cheap and makes you look 12 years old. No lies. For a few tips on street wear for men, check out Asos.com's men's collection. They reflect a euro-centric look for men that is easy to replicate all over the world. The biggest trend hitting the streets is fresh of the sidewalks of Brooklyn. We call it 'Williamsburg'.

Gym Chic

I noticed something at the gym this afternoon that had never really bothered me much till I left school; boys who work out in loafers. Granted, none of them are doing any cardio work, it hardly seems fitting to be wearing what was once a smart casual shoe to a temple of sweat and blood. Now, I'm no gym barbie when it comes to how I dress, but I feel that considering I spend so much of my time there, it's best to look somewhat put together. My advice? Go for comfort. it may seem like an obvious choice when choosing clothes to work out in, but you'd be surprised how many women I see fiddling with their get ups on treadmills or bicycles. Keep fabric to a minimal (if you're doing it right you'll sweat enough on your own), keep shoes supportive, and anything that's clingy should be reinforced with stretch (lycra, cotton). I'm a huge fan of the Reebok easy Tone Trainers, the Lululemon yoga zip up jumpers, and the Addidas range of ClimaCool wear, all above labels cater to both men and women.
